Camping Options Near Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore National Park (nps.gov), located in South Dakota’s Black Hills, is among the most widely recognized symbols of America’s freedom and hope. The main attraction of the park, Mount Rushmore, features the faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The park also features an eatery, walking trails and designated rock-climbing areas. Although camping is not allowed in the park, campers can choose from a variety of campgrounds within 20 miles of the park.

TeePee Campground and RV National Park (teepeeblackhills.com) is 17 miles away, minutes from Interstate 90, in Rapid City. It is a pet-friendly campground featuring tent sites with or without electric hookups, RV sites and sleeping cabins. Amenities include laundry facilities, a convenience store, restrooms with showers, free wireless Internet service, a convenience store and a playground.

Kemp’s Kamp along Battle Creek in Keystone, South Dakota, is just minutes from Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Needles Highway in Custer State Park. This site includes heated swimming pool, modern cabins furnished with air conditioning, and full kitchens. Shaded tent sites and modern restrooms with clean showers are available.
